Amish remedies and natural healing!

Susan: Good morning, Eli. It smells like healing in here! What are you working on today?
Eli: Mornin’ to you, Susan. Just mixing up another batch of our elderberry tonic and straining some plantain salve. You came on a good day.
Susan: I always seem to. You know, more and more folks are asking me in the store about these Amish tinctures and remedies, things like Yoder’s Good Health Formula, Amish origins Pain Relief, black salve, and B&W ointment. I think people are ready to get back to natural ways of healing.
Eli: Yah, I believe that. The old ways still work, Susan. We’ve just never stopped using them.
Susan: I’d love to hear how you were taught. Where did your knowledge come from?
Eli: My mamm and daadi taught me. And theirs taught them. It’s passed down like recipes. We watch the plants, we listen to our bodies, and we don’t rush the healing. You get a burn? B&W ointment. Chest pain? Unker’s rubbed in deep with a prayer. Cuts or boils? Black salve will pull it out every time.
Susan: I keep Unker’s by my bedside now, it’s become a go-to for everything from headaches to sore knees. And that Yoder’s Good Health formula,I took some for a week and my energy came back like someone lit a fire in me!
Eli: (chuckles) Yah, it’s got cayenne and garlic in it..that’ll wake anyone up. It’s not just what’s in these things, though. It’s the simplicity. We believe God gave us what we need right from the earth. We’re just stewards of it.
Susan: I think that’s what touches people. These aren’t products from a factory line, they’re stories in a bottle. Remedies from faith and patience. I’d like to offer more of them in the store… but I want to be sure we explain how the Amish actually use them.
Eli: Well, we don’t run to the doctor unless it’s needful. A lot of times we treat fevers, infections, even skin cancers at home first. Black salve, for example, is strong. It pulls out things beneath the skin—we respect it, we don’t use it lightly. Same with B&W,we use it for burns, open wounds, even diaper rash. We wrap it in burdock leaves or cotton bandages and let God do the rest.
Susan: That’s beautiful. And it works. The world is so used to fast fixes that they forget healing takes time. Takes faith, too.
Eli: Yah, that’s right. We pray over our sick. We slow down. We rest. Sometimes the best medicine is just getting out of the way and letting the Lord work.
Susan: That’s something the world needs to hear more of. Would you mind if I shared some of what you’ve told me, with your permission, of course?
Eli: I trust you, Susan. If it helps someone, then that’s a good thing. Just remind them, these remedies are tools. But real healing always comes from God.
Susan: I will. Thank you, Eli. For your wisdom, your kindness… and your trust.
Eli: And thank you, Susan, for telling our story and for helping our community.
*(This conversation is not verbatum but it's simlar to a conversation I had with an Amish friend)
Did you know that in almost every Amish community there is what they call a "Trauma team" who learn how to treat burn victims?
They believe in treating burns with boondock leaves and B & W ointment, which we are now selling in our Simple Life Medicine Chest. They often take turns rubbing this ointment along with coconut oil on burn victims to relieve the pain of burns and help with healing.
The Amish just amaze me!
We also have Elderberry Syrup, Yoder's good health formula, Amish Origins Pain Relief Cream, Amish Black Salve and Muscle Balm.
We have Amish remedy books and a backyard pharmacy book to help you create natural remedies! We offer a mennonite cookbook called Healthy Choices and also local Amish cookbooks.
I myself believe in eating healthy and using as many natural methods as possible to cure what ails you.
Check out our medicine chest online and books online under our health and self-care collection! *
