A Life Interrupted book

When Samuel Girod began selling Chickweed Healing Salve out of his kitchen with herbs grown in his garden and the surrounding fields, little did he know that the business he so loved, which he had literally built from the ground up, would catch the eye of the federal regulators who wanted him out of the way.

What happened throughout the next years as the drama of being criminalized, and eventually incarcerated, unfolded, Sam and his family watched helplessly as their peaceable and beneficial livelihood was dismantled, and their former unity replaced by separation, heartache, and hard times. Here is the true story of Sam Girod, told in his own words as he navigates the “places where nature does not exist, to the huge concrete and barbed wire systems of man that repress the very hope of a soul.”

“First do no harm”- Hippocratic Oath The FDA should aspire to

After growing up in an area where the Amish people reside, I learned early on that they are in tune with nature which reflects in their daily activities, work, food and health care products. It astonishes me how backwards our government is in regards to the use of herbs for example in home remedies. These are the same herbs multitudes of generations prior have used. No matter their ethnic background. This book is well thought out in detailing his struggle to accept (in my opinion), an unjust punishment for making a salve that healed people and did NOT harm anyone. While we do have to understand that rules are important especially when harm has been done. Since that is not the case here in this man’s testimony, I hope the government will take a hard look at themselves for denying the people a salve that healed people in many ways. “First do no harm” should be on the lips of every FDA representative. I hope no Amish or anyone for that matter has to endure what this man, his family & community went through. But I wholeheartedly applaud his bravery, tenacity and faith that saw him through this unjust, unwise act from the FDA.
